Suffer According To the Will of God

Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

(1 Peter 4:19)

Brother Behnam Irani has been in prison now for two years and five months. While he was out of prison on bail he had the opportunity to flee the country and make his way to a western country where he could live in safety. Pastor Behnam made the conscious choice to commit the keeping of his soul to God and suffer according to his will. This was not easy choice as he has a wife and a family. Yet he chose to go to prison and serve his time in jail. He committed his life, his days and his doings to God. He continues to do so. He has chosen to wait for God to deliver him.

This is the story of a man who remains faithful to God regardless of life circumstances. He is in prison, facing a terrible illness (intestinal bleeding) and all our reports indicate that he is a man full of joy in God. I don’t believe there is any explanation for this kind of life apart from a faithful Creator who promised to be with us through all of life’s circumstances and give us power over the flesh and the devil. As Jesus said, “behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Two other Christians who committed themselves to a faithful Creator are brother Behzad Taalipsand and brother Danial Omidi. They were convicted of drinking communion wine and sentenced to 80 whips by the Islamic Republic’s court in Rasht, Iran. This, of course, is a violation of human and religious rights, but they chose to allow themselves to be abused. Instead of fleeing the country to avoid this sentence they remained and submitted themselves to “suffer according to the will of God” and “commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.” There are other charges pending against them and they need our prayers.

Thank you for praying for the persecuted church in Iran. Through many trials they are continuing in their faith because of a faithful Creator who is with them always. If you want to take action to help the Iranian church go to https://presenttruthmn.compersecuted-christians/

  1. I know it's after the fact they are in prison already. But there is nothing wrong with fleeing. Jesus said if they persecute you in one town flee to the next.- Matthew 10:23

  2. That’s absolutely true. And we work with a few ministers in other countries that did just that. Yet, some are called to stand and stay within their country. Their desire is to reach their country and to leave means more than likely, to leave for life. So they want to stay, deal with the prison sentence because they have such a burden to reach their countrymen.
