A former congressman has created a new religious freedom organization, motivated by persecution of Christians around the world.
Frank Wolf, co-founder of the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, says the church and government have been relatively silent on the issue.
For example, Wolf was in Iraq earlier this year where he says the Christian church is facing extinction. What was once home to 1.5 million Christians is down to approximately 300,000.
“There are about 12 Christian families a day that leave,” he says.
Wolf said they interviewed about 75 people while on their fact-finding mission in Iraq.
“They all just said, Does anybody in the church in the West care about us?” recalls the former congressman. “So I would hope that we can make this one of the issues that the church would be focused on – to pray for, to advocate for, to do what we can to help those who are being persecuted.”
And that includes making a difference in Iraq before it’s too late.
“Do we want on our watch, in this time, to see the end of Christianity in an area where it all began?” Wolf asks.
