The Manifestation of the Sons of God

Manifestation of the Sons of God

manifestation of the sons of god

When does the manifestation of the sons of God take place? Is it during the grace age or is it during the millennium?

We want to examine the applicable verses in Romans 8:18-23 in order to determine if this is speaking of a premillennial manifestation of the sons of God. The standpoint is as follows. There are several quotes from brother Branham where he appears to allude to the doctrine called “Manifested Sons” which means that there is a group of elected believers that will operate in tremendous supernatural realms because of their surrendered lives. They will then be fully adopted and as a result become manifested sons of God. Here are several quotes which allude to this.

“What do you think the writer of this Book that seen it, and seen where it would be manifested in the last days, waiting and groaning for those sons of God to rise in the last days with that power of the Holy Ghost at the end of the age, to reveal the secret things from the foundation of the world, to bring it up.” [1]

“Is that right? Waiting, God trying to place His church in position to manifest Hisself, getting one that He can work through like this, say, “There’s My Spirit flowing freely. There It is. That, that, I—I— I can work here.” Get another one over here and place him, “I can place him.” Adoption, placing, manifesting, take him out here and put a ceremony on him, visit him with an Angel, tell him something.” [2]

These statements seem to be a very clear indication of the Manifested Sons doctrine. Remember, it is important that we look at everything that the prophet said so that we don’t come to an out of balance picture. Before we go any further, I want to examine Romans 8:18-23. Keep in mind, there are additional quotes from brother Branham on this subject which we will bring forward after our close look at these verses.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” Romans 8:18-23

In verse 18 the apostle is seeking to contrast the current sufferings that we are going through with the glory which will be revealed in us. He states that they cannot even be compared. The glory which will be revealed in us is to be a comfort for us as we go through the present time sufferings. The creation itself has an earnest expectation for this time as well. This event, called “the manifestation of the sons of God,” will bring forth an answer to creation itself. In verse 20 we find that Paul hearkens back to the fall of Adam and the fact of redemption for that creation. The earth and all animals were cursed as a result of the sin of Adam. Eve sinned and it resulted in a curse upon her reproductive process. But when Adam went and identified himself with the sin of his wife in order to be the antitype to the Savior, it caused all of creation to enter into the curse of suffering and death. God subjected creation to pain and death with the future hope that it would be set free from this curse.

In verse 21 he writes that creation itself will be set free from the curse it is under and enter into the glorious liberty of the children of God. What is this glorious liberty of the children of God that creation will experience? It seems to also be connected to the phrase “the manifestation of the sons of God.” In verse 22 and 23 we find that it is not only the creation that groans for liberty, but we ourselves grown as we wait for redemption. We have experienced redemption in part by receiving the new birth from the baptism of the Holy Spirit. However, there is a future redemption which we wait for, and Paul explains that this is actually our adoption, that is, the redemption of our bodies.

We are subject to suffering, pain, growing old and death. But there will come a day when we are set free from this bondage of corruption and our bodies will be redeemed to a state of immortality. The creation will also enter into the same state of freedom from corruption.

Let’s summarize this and draw our conclusions. Once we do that, we can then refer you to various quotes from God’s prophet, William Marrion Branham.

The overarching theme is that creation is under a curse and it is waiting for the time that it will be set free from that curse. We also as believers are waiting for the time that we can stop suffering and can enter into immortality, being set free from the curse of death. I want to refer you to the terminology that Paul uses to refer to this process of being set free from the curse of death and entering into immortal bodies. He uses,

  1. the manifestation of the sons of God
  2. the glorious liberty of the children of God
  3. adoption
  4. the redemption of our bodies

These are different aspects and descriptions of what happens when we are changed in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye. For we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed and this mortal shall have put on immortality and the saying shall come to pass that death shall be swallowed up of life. Oh death where is your sting, oh grave, where is your victory? Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is glorious liberty, meaning that we are free from the curse of sin and death. It is the manifestation of the sons of God because they now enter into their full authority of sonship. All of creation will see that these are the sons of God. They will enter into the rightful position of rulership that Adam received in the beginning. In adoption, speaking of the placing of sons, God takes his child and puts the robe of full authority upon him to sit with Christ in his throne and rule the world with a rod of iron. It is the redemption of our bodies because now we have received what God had planned for us since the beginning, immortality!

Now, let’s examine the timing of these events. We understand that creation will be set free from the curse of corruption and death during the millennium.

6 The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.” Isaiah 11:6-7

This is the time of the manifestation of the sons of God, the glorious liberty of the children of God because our bodies have been redeemed. It is noted that our bodies are redeemed (placing as sons) at the rapture, prior to the millennial reign. However, this manifestation of the immortal sons of God takes place upon the return of Christ and His Bride to earth to set up the millennium. Let’s break it down more simply.

When is the creation set free from the corruption of vanity? The millennium. Then when are the sons of God manifested? It would have to be the millennium. The adoption or placing of sons happens when we get our new body. The manifestation of that adoption doesn’t happen until after the marriage supper when we return to earth to rule and reign with Christ for 1,000 years.

Let’s look at what the prophet has to say on the subject now that I have laid this out.

“Many person has been deceived in receiving the Holy Ghost; as I said, they’ve got doctrines today like Elijah’s garments, and—and all these other things, manifested Sons of God, and all these different isms, and so forth, in the world today. People fall blindly on there, and go through some kind of a sensation, raise back up with a arrogant spirit, indifferent, fussy, hightempered.” [3]

“And then at the return of the church and the Bride, the Bride and Christ shall walk out upon their ashes in the Millennium, when the earth is purified by fire. And there they shall reign. And the heathens that’s never heard the Gospel shall be raised in that time, and the sons of God will be manifested. If he’s to reign, he’s got to have something to reign over; he’s got a domain. “And they ruled and reigned with Christ,” and Christ ruled, with a rod of iron, the nations. Then the Gospel… Then the manifested sons of God with the authority just like He had when He was here (See?), there will come the Millennium in that reign (See?), upon the ashes.” [4]

“And bring His people back to manifested sons of God, like they had them in the garden of Eden. The whole world’s agroaning and waiting for that hour for the manifestation of the sons of God.” [5]

“The trees and the animal life, everything’s waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God, when they’ll be manifested on the earth. Oh come, Lord Jesus, is my prayer. Oh, for the great Millennium when they’ll be manifested.” [6]

This is not at all to discount the fact that there is a maturing process that takes place prior to the rapture. There is coming a time when the sons of God will be manifested. God designed that we have dominion over the earth, that we could speak and our word would be backed up. He designed that the sons of God would fully enter into their sonship and this is called adoption. The placing of adult sons takes place at the rapture when our bodies are redeemed. Philippians 1:21 tells us that he will “change our vile bodies that they may be fashioned like unto his own glorious body.” Adult sons are not just born that way. They have to remain under tutors and governors until the time appointed of their father. A maturing process must take place at the end time prior to the rapture. The rapture is the ceremony that causes us to be fully placed adult sons. Ephesians 4:13 tells us that through the fivefold ministry and the work of the Holy Spirit in the end time that there will be a people on earth that will reach “the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” There is a process we are going through now through the opening of the seven seals that brings us to this maturity. Once the Bride as a whole reaches this place, the adoption is completed and we are caught up to heaven to meet Christ. Then we return back with Christ to rule and reign over the earth and all creation is set free from the bondage of corruption because the sons of God were manifested in fullness.
