Chinese House Church Leader Sentenced to Two Years Labor Camp

Shi Enhao, a pastor in the house church alliance in China, has been sentenced to two years of re-education through labor, a sentence that does not need a trial or conviction. According to Compass Direct Shi was “officially charged with holding “illegal meetings and illegal organizing of venues for religious meetings,” due to his leadership of a house church movement.”Police initially detained Shi during a house church meeting on May 31, 2011. Almost everyone else was released, but he was kept in custody with another pastor named Chang Meiling. These events come as the Chinese communist government is growing very concerned with the explosive growth of Christian faith all throughout the country. They believe that the Christian faith endangers national security because in their opinion  it is associated with western values and traditions.
